About MōD

What does MōD mean?

Pronounced Mode. Etymology: Derived from Middle English mood, mode, mod, and from Old English mōd (“mind,” in poetry it can also represent “heart, spirit, courage”), from Proto-West Germanic *mōd, from Proto-Germanic *mōdaz (“sense, courage, zeal, anger”), and from Proto-Indo-European *moh₁-, *meh₁- (“endeavour, will, temper”).

The Idea

Like you, I grew up in the energy drink renaissance. New, exciting, and misunderstood. The category has come a long way but many of its initial flaws remain.

High amounts of sugar. Low sugar and sugar free options are available but typically contain artificial dyes, flavors, and sweeteners.

The manufacturing process which is called high-acid hot-fill, requires a significant amount of preservatives (sodium benzoate) resulting in an extremely acidic solution. Which is needed to make energy drinks shelf stable.

Energy drink distribution is a major contributor to carbon emissions since they require nationwide trucking of extremely heavy and bulky pallets; and once it reaches its destinations its stored in refrigerated displays.

Too much caffeine. In a race to win the claim for the “strongest” energy drink some companies include over 300 mg of caffeine. Enough to potentially cause serious adverse effects.

Too expensive. The average retail price for an energy drink in the US has now exceeded $3 and continues to rise. And you’d be surprised at what you’re really paying for when you purchase one. The two largest expenses with energy drinks are distribution (essentially gas in a semi-truck) and marketing. Neither of which contribute the quality of ingredients or experience with what you’re consuming

Despite how energy drinks are portrayed, they potentially do more harm than good to your health, wallet, and the environment. There had to be a better way.

The Need

What energy drinks need is a shift in the status quo. Something that gives you the same experience without the negative health, environmental or financial impacts. People are progressively becoming more healthy and environmentally conscious and deserve an energy beverage that mirrors those values.

The Opportunity

Energy drinks are widely available and prominently featured in just about any store you walk into. But the same can’t be said when shopping online. Why? Because online selling requires efficiency to survive and thrive, and there is nothing efficient about the energy drink business. The largest expense with energy drinks is distribution. So how do you solve this? You make it lighter and more compact. What you are paying for with an energy drink is the flavor, energizing ingredients, and refreshing fizz. All of which can be compressed into a tablet. So that’s what we did.

The Long Term Plan

Any form of carbonated canned or bottled beverage can be replicated with an effervescent tablet. Energy drinks are just the beginning.

The Expertise

I have been developing dietary supplements for over a decade. Working with some of the largest retailers, manufacturers, and sports nutrition brands in the world. Owning my own brand has always been a dream, but I wanted to do it the right way. There is a new supplement company announced just about every day, but few survive because they lack an innovative idea or positive motivation behind the brand. My ultimate goal is to give people a better option. Better effects, better health benefits, better for their wallet, and better for the planet. With MōD Energy I think I’m able to do just that.
